After ten years as a regular elementary classroom teacher, I'll be a Library Media Specialist at a preK-5 school in the fall. I'll see each class once a week on a fixed schedule. I have seen four books that I think look helpful, but I'd like to get some feedback from LMSs that have actually used them before I buy them myself (please, no contacts from publishers or vendors). The first book is Skills for Life: Information Literacy for Grades K-6, 2nd ed., Christine allen, editor, published by Linworth. The second one is Developing an Information Literacy Program K-12, developed by the Iowa City Community School District and edited by Mary Jo Langhorne, published by Neal-Schuman, and it includes a CD-ROM. The other two books are also published by Neal-Schuman: The Storytime Sourcebook: A compendium of ideas and resources for storytellers, 2nd ed., by Carolyn N. Cullum and A storytime Year: A month-to-month kit for preschool programming by Susan Dailey. I do have three years experience working with preschoolers and have had experience with storytelling and puppetry. I would also appreciate other recommendations for professional books that you've found indispensible for your teaching (again, no salespeople please--I really want to know what professionals are using). I'll post a hit. Thanks!
