LM_NET: Library Media Networking

Last year, at the end of the school year, I mentioned some of my triumphs
and concerns vis-a-vis technology. My big concern was the lack of reliable
Internet access. Our school district worked on that issue and we now have
relatively consistent access.

At this year's Scholars' Night, I was asked to speak about technology and
the future. I was surprised at the positive responses from both students
and parents. Some of them asked if I would post it online so that they
could forward it to their friends. I thought I would share it with you. You
may read it at: http://www.collier.k12.fl.us/nhs/technology.html

This summer I am going to explore "Filamentality" developed by Pacific Bell:
http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/fil/
I think it may be interesting. "Filamentality is a fill-in-the-blank
interactive Web site that guides you through picking a topic, searching the
Web, gathering good Internet sites, and turning Web resources into learning
activities. It helps combine the "filaments" of the Web with a learner's
"mentality". Support is built-in through Mentality Tips that guide you along
the way to creating a Web-based activity you can share with others even if
you don't know anything about HTML, Web servers, or all that www-dot stuff."
If you have had any experience with this let me know what your thoughts are.

An interesting side note. Since February of this year, I have had problems
communicating with the LM_NET listserv from school. Using an external
E-mail account I can receive messages, but I cannot reply to them or send a
message to the listserv. Our district tech folks created an internal E-mail
account. Now, I cannot receive messages from the LM_NET listserv, although
I can receive and send messages to another listserv. We are on a Novell
Network, using Groupwise as our E-mail service. If anyone has a solution
please let me know. I finally gave up and established an account from home.
