LM_NET: Library Media Networking

Over the course of my career, I have frequently heard
comments  that so and so was a good librarian, but
that they never went near the library because he/she
was so unpleasant.  I always found the comment
oxymoronic- how can you be a "good" librarian if you
have created a situation where people avoid the
library specifically because of you? Relating this to
Dawn's posting- she wasn't writing to tell us she'd
found the best flea-dip ever, but out of genuine
concern that what she'd almost learned the hard way
could spare someone else a similar near tragedy.  Lay
you even money that people come to Dawn's library
because that same kind of concern carries over into
her manner with patrons.  I'm all for professionalism,
but I think an integral part of that professionalism
is (or should be) the human qualitites that drew us
into a service profession in the first place. We
didn't become rare books librarians, after all. Dawn's
subject line was very specific-just delete. My 2
