LM_NET: Library Media Networking
Dear LM_NETter's:
I did not post a reply because I could not locate the original message
on this subject. I did want to add to the discussion.
I am librarian at a small rural school in southwest Missouri. We have
750 students, a K-5 library and a 6-12 library, about 10,000 volumes
total.
We just got an certified elementary librarian four years ago. Before
that I spent half days each place, before that we used an aide in the
elementary.
We are planning two new libraries which will double the size of both.
We hope to encourage the community to use the secondary library. It
will have a casual reading area and a computer area with 20 computers.
However, we will have empty book shelves. My concern is that there is
always a grant for another computer but no grant for books. We need a
Bill Gates for books.
I visited a new library at Central Missouri State University last
summer. The focal point as you came in the door was a
circular-glassed-in area which housed the elevators and staircases. You
saw all the workings of the elevators. The stairs were glass bricks and
gave the impression of being underlit.
Most of us just thought "What a waste of space."
