Is this overkill? What do you do in your school?

Earlier this week the Pa State Police and Building Principal toured our
building discussing security measures. As a result all doors including
those to the classrooms and library are to be locked at all times. I can
understand the need to keep the exterior doors locked , have visitors enter
through the office and sign in, receive name tags etc. But this procedure
in the library is inconvenient and I may not always see the person
immediately since this procedure means that I must walk over to the
library double doors and open one to permit students and staff members to
enter the library. People can always leave since there are panic bars on
the main entry doors.
