I'd like to respond to this message. To Barbara: Please remember that the U.S. is only 500 years old. It is a very young country that still has growing pains. Many cultures and peoples throughout the world look to the U.S. because of some economic qualities. However, it is only one feature of the U.S. Many other U.S. qualities have a long way to go. IE. The U.S. people and its government made a decision to separate religion from school and government. Just an example. Since the U.S. is young, so is its' educational system. There are more cultural and societal conflicts that hinder processes within the education and governmental philosophies. There are many diverse cultures within European Americans that aren't even recognized. I'm a North American Indian raised on the Oneida Reservation all my life. I know from personal, family, community and tribal experiences that America is not yet ready to recognize cultural and religious differences within its own culture. The U.S. constitution describes "Freedom of Religion." However, North American Indian people had to fight to pass a "Freedom of Indian Religion Act" approximately 30 years ago. Just my opinion.
