Does anyone have any great ideas to help entice students to participate in the summer reading program conducted by the local public libraries? Our local public library does a great job with prizes for number of books read, storytellers, big kickoff day, etc...but it just seems that not as many students from my area participate as I would like (we have about 350 kids with an average of about 20 kids participating each year). One idea I have been thinking about is to announce the last two weeks of school that any McHenry student that shows up and finds me the day of the sign-up will get some sort of prize from me or put their name in for a drawing. We are having summer school for four weeks in June and the library will be open for our students from 8am-4pm. I hope this will be an incentive for them to participate in the public library event and utilize our library for books. I hope to do a them with "Camp Library" and give away prizes for visiting our library if funding permits. If there is an interest and enough ideas, I will post a hit. Thanks in advance!
