Morning News Crew: ELEM.

    How do all of you elementary school folks choose your news crews for the
following year?  In the past we have had an application to fill out requiring
basic information about the student and a place for teacher recommendations
and parent signature.  We look for students who show responsibility and
motivation to learn to speak in front of the camera, as well as ability to
read clearly.  The fourth grade teachers give recommendations and only the
fifth grade is chosen for next year's team. Then we do some on- camera try
outs for those who want to be anchors, putting together two or three
alternating teams for the following year.  Although students move over the
summer and we still have to interview others in August when school begins, we
have some chance to practice with the new teams alongside our outgoing fifth
graders before the current year ends.
    What I'd like to know is, does anyone have an application form which
works well and they'd be willing to share?  I would also welcome any ideas
for making our choices.  It always seems that our fifth graders are excited
in August and then as their peer relationships blossom in the spring they
become less and less reliable as we move toward the end of the year.  You may
