Hi, I was at one time was in possession of an article, which I cannot now locate, that described a quick way to estimate the age of a part of your library collection by checking three or four shelves at random of that general Dewey number. For example, to get an idea of the copyright date of the 300s in the collection, choose just a few shelves at random to get an idea of the most common copyright date. There must have been more to the article, but I cannot recall it. I am in need. along with a few other librarians in my district, to get a quick guestimate of the average copyright date of each general Dewey number in the collection. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks.
