My secondary school library charges fines for overdue materials. I just found out that I am expected to hand over the fine money to the district. (never to be seen again.) I am wondering how many of you charge fines? Do you get to keep the fine money? Right now I am planning a proposal for us to keep our fine money. Generally, this amount of money is enough to suppliment our supplies budget and use for library promotion prizes and other perks such as posters and such. Otherwise, I will not charge fines next year. I don't want to sound like a pill but the collecting of fines and harrassing of students chews up too much valuable time. What do you all think? Any advice is always appreciated. -- Margarette E.
