One of our third grade teachers came in today to return books and casually asked me whether she could "borrow" a bunch of CD's (software programs) and take them to the computer lab to burn them so she'd have a set to use next year in her portable classroom which is not connected to the school's server and therefore has no access to the programs she'd like. I told her that I felt that was a violation of copyright and could not do that. Her answer was that the tech person in our school does it all the time! I guess it is okay if someone else does it and gets away with it?? My question: How would you handle this without causing major waves, yet making it clear what the copyright concerns are? We do not yet have a policy on the use of the CD burner as it is a recent purchase (not housed in the media center, but in the computer lab which is in a separate location) and the only one who really has had access to it before now has been the TECH person. Am I overreacting?? Hurry with answers, please.
