I am a third-year librarian and have so much to learn! I am wondering what most of you do about purchasing new books. Do you rush out and purchase the newest books that get good reviews while they are still in hardback, or do you wait 3 to 6 months and get bindings that will last longer? After reading good reviews such as in SLJ, I do much of my fiction buying from Follett. However, when I order too quickly and get the hardback rather than Follettbound, I am finding that the hardbacks (which have no life-time guarantee) are falling apart. Plus, they are more expensive. This is happening within 1 to 2 years of purchase. I really feel it is due to the heavy usage (Reading Renaissance related) and the normal wear and tear of books by middle school students. I would like to hear what most of you do. Thanks!
