ELEM:Book Title?

Hello! A kindergarten teacher is looking for the name
of a book about a man who picks up a cat instead of
his coonskin cap and wears it on his head.  She says
that the cat talks to the man as he travels the world,
and the old woman who owned the cat is glad to have a
coonskin cap instead because it is no trouble.  Do you
know the name of this book?
