This is Part 6/9 of the list of suggested picture books for my high
school library. Thanks to all who contributed.

You will only get about 50 books...hard to choose out of so many good
ones. I would include some folktales, to be sure, as that is the heart
of children's literature. You might also use the caldecott lists as a
guide. Right there you have spent your money.

Hi - I did a quick scan of my picture books collection (I'm in a K – 3
school) and came up with this list -- the ones with stars are
exceptional, but the list covers lots of types of books. You could also
check on the ALA website - I believe they have a list of recommended
books. This is probably more that your budget will allow - but you can
get publisher's bound versions (like from Follett or Bound to Stay
Bound) that cut costs.

Millions of Cats - Gag

the fifties in a white school)

All are great GREAT read-alouds...some are classics, some are newer.
Some have spectacular art... the list could be enormous. We have such a
wonderful selection out there in the world now.

Are you in luck, there is a whole genre of picture books that
multilevel.
Golem by Wisinewski (forgive spelling).
