This is Part 6/9 of the list of suggested picture books for my high school library. Thanks to all who contributed. You will only get about 50 books...hard to choose out of so many good ones. I would include some folktales, to be sure, as that is the heart of children's literature. You might also use the caldecott lists as a guide. Right there you have spent your money. Hi - I did a quick scan of my picture books collection (I'm in a K – 3 school) and came up with this list -- the ones with stars are exceptional, but the list covers lots of types of books. You could also check on the ALA website - I believe they have a list of recommended books. This is probably more that your budget will allow - but you can get publisher's bound versions (like from Follett or Bound to Stay Bound) that cut costs. Palatini) No, David! (Shannon) All are great GREAT read-alouds...some are classics, some are newer. Some have spectacular art... the list could be enormous. We have such a wonderful selection out there in the world now. Are you in luck, there is a whole genre of picture books that multilevel. Golem by Wisinewski (forgive spelling). Harris Burdick by Van Allsburg, and The Wretched Stone by him. Have fun looking around in book stores.
