By Leo and Diane Dillon A moral tale of jungle justice imposed on a foolish and mischievous mosquito. Colorful. Personally, I love "Faithful Elephants" (older readers) because of it's powerful anti-war message. Of course, you can never go wrong with Dr. Seuss - our HS kids love him! I started with the Caldecotts, and some children's classics. I used the book "Worth a thousand words" by Bette D. Ammon and Gale Sherman to try to tie books to the curriculum. There are also some good websites with lists for older readers. I have found that folklore, and variations on folklore are popular. Dr Stan Steiner at Boise State University has a website with a lot of links for literature, or he would actually be an excellent resource. He is known as the 'Bookman' around the valley. He is at: http://education.boisestate.edu/ssteine/. I have about 700 picture books in a junior high library, and everyone loves them! -- Joanne Shawhan Library Media Specialist Cobleskill-Richmondville High School PO Box 269 Warnerville NY 12187 (518)234-3565 x1151 (518) 234-9006 (fax) jshawhan@nycap.rr.com shawhanj@crcs.k12.ny.us =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
