Re: HIT: Veteran's Day ideas

Because of another LM_NETTER'S comment on my recent post regarding our WWI
Display with Armistice and Poppies and In Flanders Fields poem focus I
wanted to add something that happened Friday and will be extended Monday.
The LM_NETTER had specifically responded to the embroidered Belgian Relief
Flour sack I had mentioned that was included in the display.  I had meant to
mention where more info could be found but the hour was late and I felt my
post too long in case our display was only of interest to our library.

I did mean to mention the Hoover Library in Iowa for a source of information
on the Belgian embroidered flour sacks, as well as give a couple of websites
for the other items, but felt my post was too long and perhaps of value only
to us.

One lovely thing on Friday was the Art teacher scheduled two classes to have
me introduce the whole display and the connection to Veteran's Day, the red
poppy and the posted poem "In Flanders Fields".

She then had them make a poppy--some were shared with the Library to add to
our features.

On Monday they are coming back and searching online for artist's paintings
of poppies, there are more than we would think, and then they will paint
their adaptation of one painting on material like a flour sack.

Wonderful connections like this make us love what we do, and any effort so
worth it.
