Hi, I am Amanda Timolat, I am a graduate student at University of Southern CT pursuing a masters in Library Science. I am doing a study on the library skills that are being taught to middle school students. I am interested in the impact that electronic resources has had on the teaching of library skills. I would greatly appreciate it is you as a LMS at an elementary school could answer these questions for me to assist me in my study. I hope to gain some insight into the information gathering and literacy habits that are being formed in the younger generations now that electronic sources have made so much information (both accurate and misleading) has been made available Please email your responses and or any questions or comments to me, Amanda Timolat at atimolat@earthlink.net. The below questions can be answered with short answers, or simply a yes or no. Thank you for taking the time to respond to the questionnaire. 1. Are library/research skills taught as a part of regular courses or as separate skills? 2. Are the computers in the library or in a room attached to the library where they are easily accessible as research resources? 3. What percent of time is spent on print resources and what percent on electronic? 4. Do the students seem to be more comfortable working with print resources or on the computers?(please elaborate if you wish to) 5. If a student is working on a research assignment where will you have them start? (online resources, online encyclopedia, print encyclopedia, print resources) 6. When using the encyclopedia, do students us print encyclopedia or electronic? 7. Have you noticed a change of computer competency or reliance among students over the past 5-7 years? 8. When students do use electronic resources, are they or have they been taught to validate the information and the source? 9. How do they validate the information to make sure that it is accurate?
