GEN: wonderful new book

Folks,
I don't often feel this inspired to post a message about a new book, but I
just got one this morning that took my breath away. It's a new book on
extinct animals called _A Gap in Nature: Discovering the World's Extinct
Animals_, by Flannery and Schouten, 2001, Atlantic Monthly Press. ISBN
0-87113-797-6. US $34.95. What I found to be so extraordinary were the
illustrations. Everyone here to whom I've shown this book has agreed. They
are magnificent. There is a one-page or less write-up on each animal
(probably close to 150 since there are 175 pages in the book), each
accompanied by one of Schouten's illustrations. In some cases the
illustration takes up an entire double page spread (some others are a full
page). For anyone looking for an addition to this part of your collection,
you won't go wrong with this one. A beautiful picture of the Dodo adorns
the cover and makes you instantly intrigued. I can't put it down. Although
I don't have it in front  of me now, I know I read a review in the 10/1/01
Booklist. I'm not sure where else it may have been reviewed.
