TECH: Adaptec CD recorder- splicing

A music teacher wants to splice together short sections of tracks from a CD
of the band's performance.  Does anyone know of a way to do this using
Adaptec's Easy CD Creator v.4.0x on a fairly new HP CD burner?  Or is there
better software that is available cheaply or free?
