This week we had parent visitation. I also run a book fair this week, students visit the book fair during their normal library time. I actually had a father look around the book fair and ask me if this was typical of what I did with the students in library every week. I told him this was a special occasion, but there were a lot of other comments I would have loved to have made. Another funny shared by a classroom teacher. One of the third grade teachers (Mrs. X) who has been at my school for over 10 years divorced a year ago and remarried over the summer and is not (Mrs.Y). One set of parents came to parent conferences and talked about their son, etc. The wife came back the next day to share with her that when they got home her husband said how much Mrs. Y looked like the old third grade teacher Mrs. X that their previous son had had. He wondered if they might be sisters. We all loved that one. A mother shared at the book fair today about a student I had been speaking to, She said oh that is "Spencer". I said yes. She said her daughter had said how bad he was, how he didn't listen, did "Gross" things and how she would never hold his hand in gym. The daughter came home a few days later and told her mother she was sorry she said so many bad things about "Spencer" Her mother asked why. She said "Spencer" was very sick and might even die. Concerned the mother began asking her what was wrong with him, what had the students been told, how long he had been out of school etc. He daughter looked at her with a very serious concerned face and said "Mom, he has Amtrack". She said it was all she could do to keep a straight face. I thought these were a good way to end a Friday after a long, hard week. -- Diane Mentzer Library Media Specialist, Technology Coordinator, + Webmaster County Computer Educator of the Year for 2000 Paramount Elementary School Hagerstown, MD http://www.wcboe.k12.md.us/mainfold/schoopag/elementary/paramount/index.html school - mentzdia@wcboe.k12.md.us home - dmentzer@zoomlynx.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
