Here is a summary of the responses that I received. I appreciate all of the
suggestions!

Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas has a criminal justice
department that may be helpful (SHSU.edu)

The John Jay College of Criminal Justice web page may be useful
http://www.lib.jjay.cuny.edu/inetlink.html

The John Jay College of Criminal Justice also has a resource guide in
forensics at
http://www.lib.jjay.cuny.edu/old/forscigu.htm

A book titled Fingerprints: The origins of crime detection and the murder
case that launched forensic science by Colin Beavan. Copyright 2001 by
Hyperion. ISBN 0-786-86607-1.

Useful web site.
http://www.surfwax.com/surfwax.html?where=net&list=&searchSetIndex=0&search=criminalistics&profile=&max=100&sort=alpha

Specials on the Discovery Channel of people actually working in a crime lab
on investigations.

Search for “forensics.” There are a number of books that should be available
from jobbers.

Thanks again for the input!
