Charlotte,
We are considering a whole school reading of a novel, too. I have
recommended either Being There or Painted Bird by Jersey Kosinski. We are
wrestling with including a book which might already be in the curriculum
or finding one which is new. I think the key is to find a book which is
manageable for all readers...usually under 200 pages. I'm also watching
the One Boo, One Chicago campaign -
