Hello, colleagues: I am wondering what you do to provide resources for recent immigrant students whose first language is Spanish. We do not currently have an ESL I teacher to whom I can turn for ideas on what he or she would do. We had the same situation last year and when I spoke with other librarians in our district, they said that the ESL I teachers from their school expected the students to use all-English materials (though modified in terms of readability). Questions: 1. Do any of you provide Spanish-language materials? 2. If so, can you recommend any websites in Spanish that would be appropriate for middle-school age students (11-14)? Any books? 3. If you don't provide Spanish-language mats, what do you do as a librarian to help these students? What do your teachers do? Thank you in advance for any help you can give Carol Valdez, Librarian Salvador Garcia Middle School 499 Pena Dr. Laredo, TX 78046 956.724.4113 fax: 956.724.6566 cvaldez@united.isd.tenet.edu http://www.united.isd.tenet.edu/middle/sgm/ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
