It's a gorgeous 80 degree day here in north Florida, and I have the recipe I was looking for, as well as one that includes GHOST POO! It doesn't get much better than this! Thanks to everyone who helped. The Witches Brew recipe is first, then some other neat recipes follow. Thanks again! Marcia 10 - WITCHES BREW by Tony Pope Materials Needed: 1 1/2 (one and a half) cups water clear Pyrex dish/bowl green food coloring red food coloring yellow food coloring blue food coloring something to stir with (a chopstick is good) bleach 1 Alka-Seltzer per demonstration dried beans piece of yarn/string/or a snake drawn onto transparency film and cut out This poem can be used with an overhead projector. Begin with a clear Pyrex dish. Place the dish on the projector. Cover the bottom of the dish with water. Add the ingredients as indicated in the poem. The bleach will cause the colors to disappear. The Alka-Seltzer will help expedite the process too and makes it bubble! Read the poem in a witchy voice. Listen, my children and you shall hear, A Halloween legend told far and near. As witches galore - oh, what a sight, Gather together on Halloween night! Fat ones and skinny ones, old ones and new, Fly in on broomsticks to make their brew. Each witch brings a special treat, To make this tasty brew complete. The witches are ready, their magic to cook, Let's come on in and take a look. Watch carefully now-don't even blink, [pour water into dish] This brew is too horrid, too awful to drink. Begin with some green slime from the deepest, dark cave. [add green food coloring] If you don't want to drink this, you'd better behave. A drop of blood from a lion's tail, [add red food coloring] Insures that this brew's magic will not fail. Add to it some juice from an evil curse, [add yellow food coloring] Can you imagine anything worse? Heh, heh, heh, to this tasty dish, We'll add the eyes of two dead fish. [add two dried beans] The bile from the liver of a bat killed at midnight, [add blue food coloring] Makes this potion a gruesome sight. We'll add some catsup just for fun, [add more red food coloring] Two snake eyes and a snake - see how they run? [add two beans and a string] A final touch for the most delicate flavor, Rattlesnake poison, it's something to savor. [add bleach] The brew's complete, the black cat is purring. All it needs now is some careful stirring. [stir] A hot fire makes the brew boil and bubble [add 1 Alka-Seltzer tablet] If you listen, you'll hear it without any trouble. The witches are pleased, and they cackle with glee. Their brew is the best, the best it could be. They fill up their vials and make ready for flight, There they go on their broomsticks this Halloween night. And off in the distance, by the light of the moon, I hear them calling, "We'll see you so-o-o-o-on!" *I modified this story/poem/demonstration slightly from the version I originally received. The original version had that you could add a cat, witch, and pot cut out of and colored on transparency film and just place them on the top of the overhead. It also called for Worcestershire sauce for the bat's bile, rocks for snake eyes, blue food coloring for rattlesnake poison. By accident I found out that the bleach actually bleaches out all the coloring you place in the dish (only place about 3-4 drops of food coloring each time). It was more visually effective (in my opinion) on the overhead than adding Worcestershire sauce. I would have bleach in a baby food jar and use and eyedropper to drop a few drops of bleach into the "brew." +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I remember what you're talking about and will check further, but here's what I've found so far... You can make a witches brew with green and purple Kool-aid. Looks awful but tastes fine. Add gummy worms and bugs and I always added "Eyes of Terror" bubble gum. I out it in a plastic cauldron (with a glass bowl inside) and stirred it with a wooden spoon. The kids love it! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I am at home now and my recipe for Bat Snacks is at school, but it is basically a trail mix and you can do it up on your own. Bat Snacks Witch toenails...cashews drops of blood...red hots dragon teeth...candy corn bones...pretzels ants...raisins ghost poo...miniature marshmallows beady eyes...chocolate chips goblin fingers...Bugles bugs...M&M's Mummy dust...powdered sugar (Add anything else you would like and give it a yucky name) Mix it in a huge container and then pour in some powdered sugar (not too much) to give a slight coating. The kids adore this but it is expensive. I know I add some other things but off the top of my head I can't remember. Happy Halloween!!!!!!!!! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I don't know of one on the overhead. I made it for real. You used frozen orange juice and ginger ale instead of water. Mix with gummy worms and serve. I added a frozen hand with gummy worms mixed in by freezing water in a rubber glove. Use pulpy oj.
