Dear LM_Netters: The reading teacher just asked me for some books on a 4th-5th grade reading level that have African American characters in them. The only books that come to mind deal with issues such as racism or the Civil War, etc. She wants books that feature African American children being kids! No "heavy" issue attached. The only books that were coming to my mind were picture books...so if you have any ideas, please let me know! Thanks in advance!
