Thank you to all who responded to my query- and there were many! I apologize if anyone didn't get a personal "thank you"-- here's a sampling of what I did for my HS's project: ***************************************************** These religions or teachings listed are not in any particular order and are just a small sampling of what is available on the internet: A description of Christianity and its traditions, such as Orthodox and Catholic, can be found here. This well- organized site is a great outline for the beliefs and practices of Christianity written by an elder in the Presbyterian Church. http://geneva.rutgers.edu/src/christianity/ Basic principles of Judaism are in this online encyclopedia including: beliefs, people, places, things, holidays and more. The author is not a scholar of Judaism nor a rabbi, but practices it and is very versed in the subject. Just see the site’s endorsements! http://www.jewfaq.org/ New Advent is also a portal for the Catholic Encyclopedia and other sites pertaining to Catholicism. More in-depth information is found on this website, not necessarily for the novice! – see the website on Christianity above for more basic material. http://www.newadvent.org Information on Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism can be found at this site, operated by the University of Alberta in Canada. Also provided are links for further information, if needed. http://www.ualberta.ca/~slis/guides/religion/chinjap.htm Islam is one of the fastest growing religions today. This site is mainained by scholars and educators of this faith, and tries to present an unbiased overview. See its new disclaimer pertaining to recent world events. http://www.al-islam.org/ The Bahá’í faith has origins in Iran (Persia) and is one of the youngest traditional religions in the world. It was born out of Islam and you can read about its beginnings here. http://www.bahai.org Hindunet is a resource for those practicing this religion, packed with events, special programs, health information and more. But, look along the left column and you will find basic information on Hinduism. http://www.hindunet.org/home.shtml Sikhism is the 5th largest religion in the world, but one we don’t know much about. Find out about who the gurus are, other important figures and the origins of this religion here. http://www.sikhs.org Zoroastrianism is named for the first Aryan prophet, Zarathushtra, and this religion is still practiced today. This site is filled with links (scroll down) to articles which may be a bit biased, but the beginning holds a basic explanantion of this religion and some of the links will be pertinent. http://members.ozemail.com.au/~zarathus/tenets33.html Mysticism: this site delves into the mystical bases for many of the major world religions. Another perspective to explore, this site is extensive where one can focus on one religion or compare them through their quotations or beliefs. http://www.digiserve.com/mystic/ For statistics, this website is a must. See where different faiths are located and their populations throughout the world. http://www.adherents.com/ This recently updated website contains links to articles comparing various religions (authored by others) as well as the author’s own personal stance. http://comparativereligion.com/ For more information, explore this collection of sites as well: http://www.multcolib.org/homework/index.html http://www.links2go.com/topic/Religion http://religion.rutgers.edu/vri/index.html http://www.nmhschool.org/tthornton/world_religions_websit es.htm http://www.academicinfo.net/religindex.html http://www.bellaonline.com/career/professions/library_sci ences/subjects/sub989795414419.htm NOTE: When using websites for research purposes, it is important to view the site, its authorship, and its date of updating.
