I had a college student who was a library assistant for me at Oklahoma State University for two years--she's still there, I've moved to Texas. She did a wonderful research paper on the rationale for the use of Graphic Novels in school libraries. She ended up receiving some publicity in American Libraries magazine, was contacted to do a poster session at ALA in San Francisco (but was not able to attend), but did do a poster session at the Oklahoma Library Association meeting last spring, and another session at Oklahoma's Encyclo-Media conference this fall--the state's librarian convention. I know her well enough to know that she won't mind if I send you (all) her email address. I believe she is an outstanding up-and-coming future librarian for young adults and children. Her name is Emily Williams and you may contact her for additional information, her report, or any justification that she might offer. (She even has her own webpage of "female characters in comic and graphic novel--even the Power Puff girls are there...it's too cool!) Check out her information and give her a chance to let you know what's happening in the real world of graphic novels and libraries. Her name is Emily Williams and her email is: erw@okstate.edu Her Fan Girl webpage is available at: http://www.angelfire.com/comics/fangirl/ Tell her I sent you!
