One thing I do for extension cords and VGA cables, etc., is to use bright yellow plastic tape about 2-3 inches wide (available at hardware stores and even the hardware section of the grocery store). I cut off a piece about 8 inches long and fold it around the cable, usually near one end. That makes a flag that you can write on with a Sharpie or marker. I write the school abbreviation (SVHS) and a number, which could be a temporary check out number or an actual barcode number, or just a sequential number so you know how many you have. =20 The tape is bright enough and the flag big enough to be very visible. The tape stays on pretty well, too. Bright yellow duct tape works well, too, and it is really sticky. Or, how about keeping all the cables in a cabinet in your office and making people ask for them and actually check them out. Lee D.
