Well, here in lovely Northeast Florida we are celebrating Banned Book Week by pulling ALL of our Harry Potter books off of the shelf pending reevaluation. A parent of an elementary school in town is complaining. This is the third challenge of the series for the same reasons -- witchcraft, sorcery, occult, etc. We may let students check the books out if they return a parental permission form during this reevaluation time. The reevaluation process is expected to last until the end of October. With the movie opening in November - the students are eager to read the books. I plan to post signs where the Harry Potter books were shelved letting students know to pick up a permission form so that they may check out the books. One of the language arts teachers has told me that a church in town has preached to its members to challenge the book: one right after the other, essentially keeping it off of the shelf. My question for you is this: Do you have a limit on how many times a book or series of books can be challenged for the same reason? Is there a time limit established before there is another challenge on the same title?
