Do any of you have any opinions on Accelerated for First Graders? We have several first graders who are reading at above average reading levels. Their teacher wants to put them into AR. We have done this in the past, but I have yet to notice if it actually helps them improve their reading. Our second grade teachers don't want us to put them on AR, because they say that they feel it makes those who aren't on AR feel 'inferior'. I can see how it would. I struggle with this, if it doesn't help the reader become better, but makes others feel less successful, is it worth using it? Does anyone have any insight or statistics that would support using AR in first grade??? THANKS!!!!
