I hope there is a Mac person out there who can help me. The last two times that I turned my PowerPC (it's a 6500/225) on, the date had reverted to 1956 or '57. I know this means that the clock battery is low. I believe that this battery is also very important in "short term" memory, and I think I heard that, if it runs out completely, you can have real problems. So here are my questions: The user's manual says "do not attempt to replace the clock battery yourself." I have, however, opened the computer up and installed an ethernet card, without messing anything up. The computer person at work says of course I should do it myself, it's no problem. Has anyone out there replaced a battery successfully? Anything I should watch out for? Also, is there any danger of losing information? Should I just leave the machine on for the next 4 or 5 days until I screw up my courage to try to replace it (or take it to a dealer)? Any advice cheerfully -- and thankfully -- received!
