Sorry, group. I should have known not to try to send an attachment. I was having help in having this sent and the person helping me didn't know either. Anyway, here are the responses I received. Wilma, We have had the same 3M system for about 15 years. It is getting a little "ratty" but we have not had a service call in at least the last 10 years. Very low maintenance, good reliability. When it wore out we bought magnetic system from (the name escapes me--but there are only 2 vendors.) The system was cheaper, had a year's warranty instead of 3 months, and is wood and so much better looking. We had them out twice during the first year to adjust things. Overall it works great, but if a book is held exactly horizontal it will get through. Our old 3m was in such sad shape that I can't really compare. You can use each company to compete with each other in price. We also got a patron counter for free because 3-m's had that and the other didn't. I don't like the radio frequency model. High school kids can defeat it so easily. I think it is $2,500.00. It helps. But, each book has a security square inside the book. When you check out a book, you put sticker over the square. Then when you check a book in you have to peel the sticker off. Tedious. I have heard 3_m is good. Check them out. If you find out anything about security systems would you mind posting a hit or sending the information to me directly? This is something my principal wanted me to check in to. Thanks so much. I have been trying to find out how much less loss is experienced after installing a security system, but it seems many places don't track this - - they install the security system and then assume they're saving $$. Please let me know if you get this information.
