To help young students remember the concept of city, state, country, = continent, student teacher, Dawn Dokken, developed this mnemonic device: = city (4 letters) smallest word, smallest unit state (5 letters) next in word size, next in unit size country (7 letters)=20 continent (9 letters) =20 Students visually see the difference in size and can quickly move to = comparisons such as which is the largest? Which is bigger than a city? = etc.=20 I had not seen this before but have been baffled as to how to help young = students grasp the concept. I will use it from now on. Perhaps you can = use it, too. Dawn is completing a very successful semester at our school, graduates = from the University of Texas at San Antonio soon, and will be joining = the ranks of classroom teachers this fall.=20 Bev Golden, Library Media Specialist Huebner Road Elementary School San Antonio, TX=20 bgold135@neisd.net =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
