Taliah 's question reminds me that I wanted to ask the US audience out there if you saw the segment on Sunday evening's ABC news regrading " The Book Thing" ? It's not the solution to all of our discards but....there's a man (forgot the town but maybe in Massachusetts)who takes in all sorts of books that people can't bare to put in the trash and he just offers them - not for sale, not for loan - people come and load up. They showed some librarians, teachers, and or home schoolers getting books needed for educational pursuits (textbooks, even) and one charming 14-year-old who obviously LOVED having access to such a wealth of books to take for her own --- I think she was stamping them inside the cover with her name of something even before she left the room. The Book Thing is all in ONE room somewhere. I tried visiting the ABCnews.com site to refresh my memory on some of the particulars, but didn't have any luck. Probably because is was just a short human interest item at the end of the newscast. For what it's worth. Marcia Dressel Osceola Elem and Int. Schools Osceola Wi USA ddressel@svtel.net P.S. I've never been subscribed to this list during summer. It's.....different..........fun.
