All of this "shelf re-arrangements" reminds me of a job that I interviewed for a few years ago. It seems that the principal and the librarian were not friendly to one another. During the year, the librarian was in a car accident and was not able to come into work for several weeks. The library was still being used with the teachers taking the children into the library and checking books in and out. No one put the returned books back on the shelves, though.... The principal got VERY angry because the librarian was taking SO LONG to "heal herself" and decided to take out her anger in the library. She pulled out every book from the shelves and piled everything in the middle of the library for the librarian to find when she returned ( I know, it sounds a little "mental" to me too....) Anyway, the librarian returned to work after several weeks of therapy, walked into the library, saw the mess and went to the principal. The principal remarked that she was the one who left the library in such a mess because she felt that the librarian was taking advantage of her time off from work. (huh?) Well, the librarian resigned immediately (never returned to the library--left all her stuff--I saw it there!) and reported the incident to several school board members (a very large district). The position for librarian was then opened and the principal who did "this deed" was interviewing "new" librarians. At the same time of the interviewing, the school board found out the entire story was ALSO appalled at what the principal did and thus began moving forward to "remove" this principal from her position! (yes, there is justice for those who wait!) I didn't take the library position that they offered me...when I heard about this story the principal was still there and the board hadn't yet made a decision about her actions....I didn't want to take a chance with that situation...what a psycho! But the removal of all the books in each story I've read reminded me of this story! (It makes you wonder why some people gravitate to education, doesn't it?) ~Shonda Brisco Trinity Valley School Ft.
