I'm a little late on this topic, but wanted to tell you what happened to me. I do let parents check out books, but ran into a probIem with one of them. I had a parent who was the library aide at a nearby school, that did not have a good book budget. She would come to my library and borrow books (all the new ones), and take them to read to her students. I finally reached my breaking point when she asked when the stack of new books I was covering would be ready because she wanted to check them out, at the time she had an armload of new books that I had put on display for my students. I went to my Principal, and we changed our parent check out policy. Parents can check out books if they are for our students, or the parent.
