Looking for a book

Hi!  I am a first year media coordinator at a middle school in coastal =
North Carolina and would like some help discovering the name and author =
of a particular book that one of my teachers wants me to get for the =
library. =20

The book's  story revolves around two boys growing up in South Africa.  =
One of the boys is white and the other black.  It is set before and =
during the Boer War.   The boys were friends before the war; however, =
they ended up turning against one another. =20

If anyone recognizes the title of  this book and the author, please let =
me know!  Thanks! :)
