Thanks so much for the many responses. I've posted a hit since many of =
you were interested. You gave me lots of information I didn't know. =
Thanks!

I signed up with them for the first time this year, but I only signed up =
for
3 levels so I get 3 books per month. I wanted to try them before I
committed to more. So far I have been very pleased. The books have been
high quality. The rep has been very helpful. Paperwork is minimal and =
the
books come fully processed and shelf ready. I'll probably do it again =
next
year. =20

am in a high school library and love their selection--we get two a month.
They pick books for you level--not any trashy novels .

I've used JLG for years. For the most part I am very happy with the=20
books they send. They are now much more flexible than they used to be.=20
You can trade a book you don't want for any other book from a=20
subscription you may not have. It's a great savings and well worth it.=20
After all, are you always absolutely satisfied with the books you pick=20
out yourself? All of these books have gotten decent reviews, some of=20
them are starred selections. Go for it.

I use Jr. Library Guild every year. I have been quite pleased with the =
selections I receive. It is a big chunk but because they are nearly all =
books I would have considered buying anyway, I feel it is a good buy.

I'm a bit leary of letting someone else choose =3D
> my books.=20

That is exactly why I don't use this program. Only you know the needs=20
of your students and staff.

I have been using this service for about 5 years and am very happy with =
it. You do recieve hard cover books at about $10 per book (which is much =
cheaper than bookstores or catalogs). They are good quality, I have never =
had a problem with them falling apart, etc. The company is very good =
about exchanging something. They will send you a prepaid label to return, =
and they will ship your new title. A high percentage (I think 80%) are =
nominated for awards. I have always been pleased with the quality and =
service I have received from JLG. =20

They only send me 5 books per month. I think you can sign up for as =
little or as much as you want. I like it pretty well. If you don't want =
a book, you really have to let them know several months in advance. There =
have been a few books I wouldn't have chosen. =20

HIghly recommend it. I have been using JLG for 3 years now; they select =
and
send usually top-notch material. You could give it a try for one of the
levels and see, maybe, for a trial-run. I use it for all my levels of
readers here. =20

This is my first time with JLG. So far, I love the books. I hate having to =
hold them for 6 months until the AR test disk arrives. It takes a big bite =
out of my budget too, but I think I will continue it next year. It takes =
me a few years to get a real sense of worth with a new vendor. Except =
ofcourse with the really bad ones.

have JLG- I inherited the subscription when I started here 3 years ago. =
I've kept it- it's a simple way of getting pretty good books. I've been =
finding a lot of duplicates in my collection- things that I've ordered =
elsewhere are selections from the JLG bunch. I've had no problems thus =
far with them...

did this in my previous llife as a school librarian. It was worth it. =
Most of the books are award winners, or highly reviewed. If you want more =
info, please email me.

find their books are a good deal, reasonably priced and of very good
quality. However, you should know that you don't have to sign up for ALL
their books. They do indeed have 10 age categories, as well as 1 new
non-fiction category, but I would imagine that very very few libraries get
all the categories each month. I receive three age categories (E, A, and
B), and the new middle school non-fiction catgegory. You would only
subscribe to the ones which are age appropriate for your particular
library -- in my case, K-8.

They are really good books, but I am leery also. 1) I might have =
already=20
ordered them from the regular vendor. 2) Do they come cataloged? Who =
has=20
time? 3) They might be well reviewed but still not appropriate for my=20
library.

I stay away from all preview programs like this. =20

I used to belong, but stopped when their prices went up dramatically. =
Also, it seemed that every year there was some kind of a problem. It's =
nice to get the new books - but as far as I'm concerned, it's not worth =
the price and I don't believe the books are library bound.

We are in our first year with Jr. Library Guild. We did not sign up for
every level, so we get only 6 books per month, but so far this year, they
have all been terrific. Some of them are books that I have read reviews
on and am familiar with, others are ones I have never heard of, but they
are all very good, and the students and teachers have enjoyed them. Our
PTA gives us $1000 every year, and that is what I bought with it this
year.

Our district subscribes to JLG and we love it. The books are the newest =
and
we've been happy with the selection. It was a little easier to swallow the
amount last year when the budget was higher but we decided to stick with =
it
this year. I don't know if I would spend 1/3 of the budget on it or not.
Have you looked at the books that were sent last year? That would give you
an idea of what you would be getting.

Kris, You can purchase any one level and not take all the levels offered.
I recieve the P+ level and have this year started the non-fiction. I
really like having one new picture book a month to share with my Pre-K
through 1st graders. The quality of the books seem to be very good. I
started last year with just the P+ level. Using one level lets you get to
know the company without committing a lot of your budget. Hope this =
helps.
