Dear LM_NET Colleagues, A bit over a week ago I asked in a Target for your experiences with roll laminators, and especially heatless laminators. There were not many replies, but here are those that I received. Thanks to those who gave their input! Peter Milbury, Co-Moderator of LM_NET pmilbury@ericir.syr.edu School Librarian - CA TeleMentor Chico HS, Chico, CA ------------------------------------------------------------------- We have the GBC model Ultima 65. My assistant, who uses it the most, is for the most part, happy with the machine. This model has a safety panel which means that small items are hard to laminate if not impossible. Because only my assistants and I are suppose to use the laminators (there is one at both of our buildings) the oldest one is over 16 years old and still working. We no longer have a service contract on the oldest machine. Every time the rolls are changed we clean the rollers which helps maintain them. Emily Honaker, Library/Media Specialist Delaware Joint Vocational School Delaware, Ohio 43015 emily_h@treca.org --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last year we bought the GBC Ultima 65 to replace a unit that was, we thought, on its' last legs. We handed it down to one of our other campuses and it is still in use. We also have another older GBC, bought long before my tenure here, which is still running strong! We have maintenance policies on all of them, and have had to have - over the course of years - several parts replaced, but always quickly and at no cost. If you've not had experience with GBC before, I would recommend them highly. Happy holidays. Paula Paula Shipley du Feu Library Director Gulliver Academy Coral Gables, FL dufep@gulliverschools.com http://www.gulliverschools.com --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Several years ago we bought a cold laminator from ProFinish. We really like it and the quality of the laminate is superior to the hot laminator. The only draw back is the cost of the laminate. It is nearly twice as expensive as the hot. We continue to use the hot laminator as it is a smaller size, but the cold one is great for posters. We also have a poster maker and you can only use the cold laminator for them. Good luck. Vicki Steffen Evans Elementary Marlton NJ 08055 steffenv@evesham.k12.nj.us --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We have a cold laminator by Pro Finish. It was purchased when we got our poster maker which makes posters with heat sensitive paper so hot laminators cannot be used. The film is thicker than our hot laminator. I have no complaints about the quality. The only thing I have noticed is that tape will not hold items up that have been cold laminated. We have tried masking tape, clear packing tape and duct tape - nothing will stick to it. I have nailed or tacked up the things I needed to hang. Good luck! Frances Murphy, Media Specialist Mason Elementary School Laurel, MS fpmurphy@bellsouth.net --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We have a Brother Cool Laminator. We can only laminate legal and letter sized papers but the quality is excellent. lm Lynn Mitchell Technology/Media Specialist CRHS --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
