Here's an idea for those of you who have jigsaw puzzles (several of you
mentioned you make them from laminated book jackets):

To prevent the almost certain problem of getting the pieces from different
puzzles mixed up, before you circulate (or laminate) the puzzles, select a
crayon color and mark that color on the back of all the puzzle pieces in
that puzzle(good task for student volunteers). Pick a DIFFERENT color for
each puzzle, and put a swatch of that crayon color inside the box lid or on
the envelope.

For laminated book covers, it might be easier to glue a sheet of colored
construction paper to the back before laminating. That way, when you cut it
up, the parts will already be identified.

I used this idea on the back of my son's jigsaw puzzles and it has come in
handy dozens of times. It is a bit of work, but you can have the kids do
it. If you have a lot of puzzles, you might want to make a chart and list
the titles, along with a swatch of the appropriate crayon color, to save
time when you have the "odd" puzzle piece turn up.
