We were discussing this in one of my classes the other day, and if I might may I add our two cents worth to the topic. Yes this is the wave of the future, every day since the invention of shrinkwrap there has been someone trying to find a way to use it to their advantage. The day the first video, CD, DVD, or whatever it was got shrinkwrapped, the rest of the intellectual property world sat up and took notice. Hey if they can do it why can't I. Is it inevitable? Yes. Will it hurt libraries? To some extent. Can we do anything about it? Of course! Through the modern miracle of LIST_SERVS we, as librarians have the power to spread the word of "Shrinkwrapitis." If we just send out a message to all our bretheren and sisteren (my own word)telling who does and who doesn't shrinkwrap and withhold our power($$$$$$$) from the wrappers, perhaps eventually they will get the message where it hurts.
