Does anyone place their barcodes (and date due slip) on the outside front cover of your books? Up until now, we have placed our barcodes in the back of our books on the inside -- inside back cover if possible, otherwise the page opposite the back cover. Before we were automated, we used pockets; now we just have a date due slip. As we attempt to do our first real inventory, we are reconsidering their placement, and are leaning towards putting them on the outside of the books from now on. If we do this, we would like to place the date due slip on the outside of the book as well. We have seen barcodes placed on the back of books, usually on the top away from the spine. However, we have lots of paperbacks and feel that if we put the barcode and the date due on the back, it will cover up the summary, etc. that the students like to read. So, we're wondering. is there any downside to placing it in the front? (One we thought of is that they would be more conspicuous, and students would be more likely to try and remove them???)
