Rena and all, When we began bar-coding our books 6 years ago, we made the decision to put our labels inside the back cover on the existing pockets of the books. We just place them alone on the back pages of new books. This has worked for us. Occasionally a pocket has fallen out but this is rare. Now I am shared by another school and they place their bar codes directly on the back cover. What a help that has been! You see, a new server system, Citrix/ClassLink has been installed on our district computers. We also needed a new scanner at the same time. The scanner and ClassLink are NOT totally compatible with Winnebago Spectrum. The scanner worked fine the dirt time we used it which was the day before ClassLink was installed. Now when you want to scan a barcode (book, patron) you must first scan, then press Enter before it will register on the screen. Imagine how much fun that is with a line of kids waiting to check out 3 books each or a large return box filled to capacity? Calls to the manufacturer of the scanner and Winnebago have not been able to solve the problem. So until the next budget is passed in the Spring we are stuck. However it is easier to tell a student to turn a book over to the back or just to stack the books on their backs to scan that in is to open each book to the back page. Just something to consider. Jo PS. Our local public library also places barcodes on the back of the book. ********************************************* Josephine G.
