A union catalog allows for more financially effective use of resources.  =
Sharing where and when the need is great as opposed to everyone having =
deep sections of their libraries that get used during short periods of the =
year.

Students have greater access to the resources they need.

Systemic improvements occurr.  Cataloging records  and procedures are =
standardized.
(I was in a district that converted to a union catalog.  Boy, did our dark =
little secrets get revealed about individual library policies & practices. =
It was good in the long run.)

I have my own ideas of the importance of a shared online catalog having =

used one for years.  However, I am seeking your expert opinions on the =3D
matter.  Here is the question:  What advantages do students receive in a =

school that has a shared K-12 card catalog online over students in a =3D
school in the same district that may not use the shared catalog?
