Okay Friday and all and thoughts here in St. Louis being on a football game to be played Sunday. I thought I would take this off topic process one step further with Dr. Eric Heiden just Eric Heiden in his youth. Here is someone who captured 5 Gold Medals (or better phrased all the individual men speed skating medals) in the 1980 Olympics, than went on to win the 1985 US Professional Cycling Championships, but unfortunately when he competed in the 1986 Tour De France his story ended with a horrible crash. I think you have to give him a great deal of credit of sparking initial interest in the event by both the American public and sponsors. I know he also is still active with the cycling world and benefits held by Armstrong and others for cancer survivors. By the way Dr. Eric Heiden followed up his athletic success, which he never did understand all the publicity about, with academic success and becoming and Orthopedic Surgeon. All are great stories that kids should be introduced to. Heiden might be an interesting subject for many though with the Winter Olympics opening in a few weeks and still being the person who has captured more individual gold medals in one Olympics ever in US history, and did with a bashful charm. 1980 happened to be the year of the "Miracle on Ice" too I do believe. If memory serves me correctly, it being = Friday and all, Lemond got two of his Tours and his second Worlds after = the hunting incident. Lemond also did not have nearly the team support = Lance gets. They are both great cyclists and inspirations.
