Need a title

A teacher ask for a book she remembers reading several years ago from our
library. She remembers that a boy tricks a troll(she thinks) to get across a
bridge to get to school. One of the tricks involves money(change) and
another maybe a hole of some sort. I know this is vague but I also know how
good you all are at this type thing.
