Dear Colleagues, Thank you for responding to my request for suggestions for author study activities about Natalie Babbitt. LM_NET is a remakable group of generous individuals. Happy New Year to all. Here are the resources suggested: http://falcon.jmu.edu/~ramseyil/babbitt.htm http://www.proteacher.com/070165.shtml http://www.sdcoe.k12.ca.us/score/tuck/tucktg.htm http://edselect.com abcteach.com And the activities suggested: If the focus is going to be on everlasting life, ... bring in Harry Potter. Consider images of circles in Tuck Everlasting (ferris wheel, concentric circles when a stone is dropped in water) and their relationship to life cycles. Discuss the Circle of Life from birth to death and how Tuck's circle is unending. Make a list of pro's and con's of everlasting life. Compare theme to the Disney movie, the Lion King. Ask students to reflect pre and post reading on such topic statements as: All crimes should be punished. Everlasting life would be a wonderful thing. Consider the Literature Circles model. Thank you again.
