I thought I would share my excitement of the first day back after vacation.
First I will set the stage by telling you that my district does
have a filter on our internet. I did however have one slip through today.
A fourth grade teacher was doing a lesson on Maryland. She was using a page
of links she has used in the past. One of the students clicked on what
should have been a link to Kid Channel at - http://www.kid-channel.com/
what she got was an adult site. Luckily it was one with no pictures just
words. She was in such shock she came to the door that separates the
library from the computer lab and yelled "Come look at the" "Come look at
this" I had my students sit down and made my way to the lab. I told her to
write down the address and have the students not use that link until I can
get it removed from her link page. I then did a short just in time lesson
on how "not Nice" people can take over website addresses and what to do if
it happens to you. What a way to start the new year!
