Good morning LM_NETters!

The January 2002 topic for Weed of the Month is: Asia.

With today's news events, your students are now hearing names of many
Asian leaders, countries, cities, and regions for the first time. If
those students go to your collection for more information, would they
find information that is current now or was valid 20 or so years ago?
Would they know the difference?

A brief explanation of Weed of the Month for new LM_NET members: The
SUNLINK Weed of the Month began in September, 1997, from an idea
by Mike Eisenberg co-owner of LM_NET, and as an effort to help provide
Florida's School Library Media Specialists with guidelines and
suggestions for weeding their collections a little at a time as well
as adding quality materials. A section of the collection is
identified each month during the school year (September through May)
as a weeding target.

For more information, including guidelines for weeding this area,
suggested titles to examine, and possible titles to consider for
purchase, go to http://www.sunlink.ucf.edu/weed/ .The current topic, as
well as the archives of previous Weed of the Month topics for the past
four years may be found at the same location by scrolling down the menu
bar on the left side of the screen.
