Okay, this one has been bugging me for a while and I KNOW some of you can supply
the answer. In the 70s, while I was a stay-at-home mommy, I used to read some
books by an author whose name began, I think, with an M or Mc. Her 'formula' was a
nice, poor girl is spotted by a rich man who falls in love with and marries her.
She would do everything for her kids and husband - and they would always take her
for granted. By the end of the books she would die alone and poor, her kids having
taken everything she had. A sub-plot through these books was that there was a
cadre of rich business men who 'really' ran the country and decided among
themselves who would be president, what countries the USA could trade with, etc.
This is really unimportant, which is why I'm asking it while many of us are still
on winter break, but it has been bugging me that I cannot remember the author of
the books - needless to say, I don't remember any of the titles either...
